Seals: La Jolla, San Diego

Boom Shakalakka

In San Diego, I stayed with long time family friends, the Barbaries. San Diego was a lot of fun… I rode Tom’s ex-racehorse, Boom Shakalakka, who was the sweetest mare, and had an awesome time at La Jolla, where all the pelicans and seals hang out on the coast. Pelicans are really beautiful, fascinating, almost pre-historic looking birds, and I stayed for hours, observing them. I also saw a freshly newborn baby seal, which was really neat.

Then I got a great tour of the city of San Diego & Balboa Park, by my friend, Chantel, whom I met through a mutual friend from Philly. My impression of San Diego is that it’s a very laid back seaside city, with a lot of friendly, happy people that love where they live, and take pride in showing visitors all the cool, hidden gems that city has to offer.
