South Dakota

South Dakota was pretty uneventful. I did drive by one of the homes of Laura Ingalls Wilder, a hero of mine, so that was cool. Somewhere along the way I decided it was time to check the fluids in my car, and discovered that something had exploded under the hood, which lead to boiling hot antifreeze melting away many of the rubber tubes that are meant to protect various electrical wires. The friendly biker with the shimmering Harley parked next to my overheated, battered and bug-splattered ride came by to check out the scene. He said we could patch it up with electrical tape, but that he had none on him. I refrained from commenting (but had to laugh a little) about his left index finger, which was bandaged in its entirety with it. Luckily, I keep a roll of the black stuff in my camera bag (you never know). Together we were able to bandage the exposed wires, and hopefully prevent further damage, enough that I might make it home.

I *knew* we were kindred spirits!!!! I heart Laura Ingalls Wilder so much……she shaped my childhood immensely. I actually just finished ‘These Happy Golden Years’ for the 20th time… =) BTW….it sounds like SD was just a *tad* more eventful than you made it out to be…..!
